One of the countries that I have always wanted to visit is Ireland. When I decided to study abroad I put Ireland to the top of my wish list. I was very happy when my mom, sister, and fiancé decided to visit me at the end of the semester so that we could travel to Ireland (and Denmark) together.
We only had one full day in Dublin because we decided to spend our second day going on a bus tour. Because of this we had to squeeze all of Dublin into one short day. I really wish we would’ve had more time but we ended up seeing a lot anyway. So if you only have one day in Dublin these are the things I would suggest doing!
We started off the day by visiting Trinity College. It was a really short distance from our hotel and very easy to find. We were able to walk around the campus which was very beautiful and historic. We even had time to visit the library which is the one place that I really wanted to go. It reminded me a lot of how I imagined the Hogwarts library to be. It was a little extra to go in the library and see the book of Kells but I think it was worth it!
Next we wandered over to the Temple Bar area. We were originally trying to find Temple Bar but decided to have lunch at a little pub instead. The food was so good and our waiter was hilarious! We spent lunch trying to decide whether to go to the Jameson Distillery or the Guinness Storehouse. We eventually decided to wander over the Guinness.
We almost had to run to Guinness because it was almost time for them to close. I think we were the last tour to go through that day! But the run was worth it because Guinness was a really fun place to visit! I think Brett especially loved it because none of us really like beer so he got to drink all the samples.
I really enjoyed learning about all of the advertising techniques that Guinness has used over the years. All of the exhibits were interactive and we enjoyed going through them. The best part though was visiting the bar at the end. You take an elevator to the top of the storehouse and get to enjoy a complementary glass of Guinness. The 360 degree views of Dublin were amazing! We spent quite a lot of time just relaxing and enjoying the sites! I think Guinness is a definite must-see!
Overall, our time in Ireland was way too short and I hope to go back and visit one day soon! I loved spending the day learning about history at the library and beer at Guinness. Our trip to Ireland was the last stop of my amazing semester in Europe. After Ireland we headed back to London for our flight home.
Thanks for reading! I hope you enjoyed learning just a little bit about Dublin! Have you been to Ireland?
